Stratford Town Council

Stratford Republican Town Committee Chairman
1958-1971
Statement by Chris Healy on the passing of former
Republican State Party Chairman Frederick K. Biebel
The Connecticut Republican Party and Republicans everywhere mourn the loss of
Chairman Emeritus Frederick K. Biebel.
Fred Biebel, as most knew him, led the Connecticut Republican
Party in its darkest days to the brilliant sunshine of the Reagan Revolution. He
was a tireless Republican who gave his entire life to the cause of freedom.
Fred Biebel was an original, someone who was at the center of
the great political debates and contests over the last 60 years. He served in
every capacity as a volunteer, campaign manager, executive director of the
Party, then State Party Chairman before joining President Ronald Reagan at the
national stage as national co-chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Throughout his storied career, Fred Biebel was generous to a
fault, counseling and supporting the next generation of Republican leaders while
respecting those who he differed with politically. Fred came from an age where
those who fought hard politically could still be warm friends when the whistle
blew.
There are many people who Fred touched and helped propel to
numerous successes, from former Mayor Nick Panuzio in Bridgeport to President
Ronald Wilson Reagan of California. Fred Biebel is known through the country for
his loyalty, hard work and unshakable belief in the cause of freedom and the
U.S. Constitution.
Fred knew and worked for six Presidents but never forgot his
roots as an ordinary citizen who loved his country like a true patriot.
Republicans everywhere share in the sorrow of Fred Biebel's passing.
We offer our prayers and support to his wife, Violet, his
children, Karen Sutra, Kyle Knapp and Kevin Biebel as well as his extended
family who Fred loved each and every day of his rich life.
